UO German Culture Class Connects to Fest

"Music in German Cultural History" is a two-week University of Oregon course, June 29-July 15, that investigates German culture, literature, and music from the times of Martin Luther to Karl Marx, integrating three Festival concerts with works by Bach, Beethoven, Haydn, and Mendelssohn. It's a four-credit course offered by the UO's Department of German and Scandinavian that satisfies general-education requirements. OBF participants and general public may enroll as auditors.

Summer Session registration officially opens May 7. To place your name on a pre-registration interest list, post a note below, send email to Elin England at the Oregon Bach Festival, or call (800) 457-1486.

Class number: GER 257; Instructor: Matthias Vogel; class fee $250 plus three required concert tickets; ticket discount voucher issued upon enrollment.

  • July 3, 4:30 pm: Bach Cantata 78, "Jesu der du meine Seele," lecture-concert in Soreng Theatre, Hult Center
  • July 8, 4 pm: Bach, Mendelssohn, and Haydn in Silva Hall, Hult Center
  • July 15, 4 pm: Beethoven Missa Solemnis in Silva Hall, Hult Center

Ticket Discount
Your choice of:
a) all three concerts for $30 with seating in Section D areas for Silva Hall concert while availability lasts, or
b) free admission to July 3 cantata with purchase of 7/8 and 7/14 concerts at regular price in your choice of Silva Hall seating areas A-C.
