June 15, 2008
Scott Barkhurst, media relations

Expect music, wit, and hte Young Lutheran's Guide to the Orchestra with Garrison Keillor

Garrison Keillor, Mr. Prairie Home Companion to millions of fans, brings his inimitable sense of humor, style, and a love of music to the Oregon Bach Festival June 30. This hot-selling event is headed for a sellout, so don’t delay.

Keillor will share the Silva Hall stage with the OBF Chorus and Orchestra, along with the Stangeland Family Youth Choral Academy, conductor Philip Brunelle, and acclaimed soprano soloist Maria Jette, who has worked with Keillor numerous times in their native Minnesota.

This is a family-friendly concert specifically crafted for the Festival, combining the wit that has made Keillor a best-selling author and columnist, and the superb musical artistry that has made the Oregon Bach Festival a classical gem. Selections include Glinka’s Overture from Ruslan and Lyudmila; Davidson’s The Young Lutheran's Guide to the Orchestra; Bill McLaughlin’s Old American Songs; Mozart’s Laudate Dominum; and two selections from  Handel's oratorio Samson: Let the Bright Seraphim, and Let Their Celestial Concerts All Unite. Expect a few impromptu surprises from the stage!
