Themes of love and rhythms of dance weave through works by two giants of the German tradition. Bach's BWV 34 ("O eternal fire, o source of love") offers sublimely beautiful arias and full-scale choral passages. BWV 131 ("From the depths I call to thee, Lord") enthralls with the promise of redemption. From Brahms, the Hungarian Dances evoke the joy of folk celebrations, while the sparkling and romantic "Love Song" waltzes feature the husband-wife duo of Robert Levin and Ya-Fei Chuang. Guest conductor Craig Hella Johnson, a former OBF student of Helmuth Rilling, has earned national acclaim for his innovative programming.
