Michelle Areyzaga

Following a “stunning” (Opera Magazine) debut in Der Kaiser von Atlantis for Chicago Opera Theater, Michelle Areyzaga has demonstrated her vocal diversity in a variety of operatic roles. She has performed with such companies as Lyric Opera of Chicago, DuPage Opera Theatre, Chicago's Light Opera Works, and Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México. Recent engagements include the first-ever performance of Bach's Mass in B Minor in Costa Rica in 2009 under the baton of John Nelson. Other highlights of 2009 included a recital of the songs of Lita Grier at Ravinia and a fourth appearance with the New York Festival of Song in the program “The Welcome Shore.” This year's engagements have included performances with the symphonies of Northwest Indiana and Wichita, with the Rhode Island Philharmonic, and with Opera Birmingham, singing the role of Susanna in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. Areyzaga made her European concert debut as soloist in Vaughan Williams's Mass in G Minor at England's York Minster cathedral, Ely Cathedral, and University Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Oxford. In Paris she received standing ovations as soloist in the Lord Nelson Mass with the orchestra of London's Royal Academy of Music and the St. Charles Singers. Areyzaga's CD The Sun Is Love was released on the Proteus label, and she is featured on a CD of the songs of Lita Grier that was recently released by Cedille Records. Her CD of the songs of William Ferris will be released soon.
